CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The Barton College women's track team posted five top-10 finishes on Saturday during competition at the Art and Linda Maillet Open, hosted by the University of North Carolina.
Two of those results came in the same event, the 800-meter run. Sophomore Sharon Kiptoo placed sixth in the field of 24 with a time of 2:24.73, followed in eighth by senior teammate Jamicia Jones, who recorded an indoor personal record of 2:32.20.
Senior Eva Amo-Mensah earned ninth place overall out of 24 runners in the 400-meter dash after producing a mark of 1:01.39 that stood second among NCAA Division II competitors in the primarily NCAA Division I field.
Freshman Dyniesha Norman, making her collegiate debut for the Lady Bulldogs, claimed a top-10 finish in the shot put with a toss of 10.2 meters. The Raleigh resident surpassed seven NCAA Division I challengers among the field of 20.
The final top-10 was delivered by the 4x400-meter relay squad, which finished seventh among 12 teams with a time of 4:09.06. Amo-Mensah, Jones and Kiptoo joined senior Alexandria Robinson in making up the foursome.
Robinson, a two-time all-region honoree in the 400-meter run, narrowly missed a top-10 showing in that event in her season debut. The Apex resident placed 11th with a time of 1:01.51.
Barton will return to action January 29th and 30th at the Darius Dixon Memorial Invitational, which will be hosted by Liberty University in Lynchburg, Va.
