RALEIGH, N.C. – Although Friday's rain and Saturday's wind kept the Barton College women's track team from producing many record runs in this weekend's Raleigh Relays, the Lady Bulldogs turned in solid performances in the meet hosted by North Carolina State University.
Senior Breyuana Kittrell posted the squad's best 400-meter time of the year while making her season debut in the event. The La Grange, N.C., resident recorded a time of 57.55 seconds to place 24th in a field of 119 runners. The mark is roughly a second and a half off her school record in the event.
Junior Alexandria Robinson produced a time of 1:04.61 in the 400-meter hurdles, eight-tenths of a second off her season best and a second and a half off her BC record. The Apex, N.C., resident finished 16th in a field of 61 participants.
The 4x100-meter relay team was better than the school record at the start of the year (49.72) but three-tenths off the new BC standard of 49.19 set last week in the Wake Forest Open. Barton's foursome of Alainah Taylor, Breyuana Kittrell, Eva Amo-Mensah and Zorayda Rodriguez turned in a mark of 49.47 on Saturday to come in 28th out of 39 teams.
The Lady Bulldogs did break one school record in the meet, eclipsing the sprint medley relay mark of 4:22.86 set in last year's Raleigh Relays. This year's foursome of Kittrell, Rodriguez, Robinson and Cimone Barbour completed the medley in 4:17.90 while finishing 17th in a field of 23.
Barton will return to action this weekend at the VertKlasse Meeting in High Point, N.C., hosted by High Point University.
