RALEIGH, N.C. – Last week the Barton College men's track team broke two of the school's relay records, the 4x100-meters and the 4x400-meters. This weekend at the Raleigh Relays, the Bulldogs added BC standards in the 4x800-meter relay and the sprint medley relay to the collection.
A foursome of Semaj Street, Angel Alvarez, Edwin Dhaiti and Austin Edmonds completed the sprint medley on a rainy Friday afternoon, posting a time of 3:38.03 to eclipse the old Barton record of 3:42.77 set in the same meet last year. Barton's team finished 11th out of 18 in the event.
Edmonds was also part of the 4x800-meter relay squad that broke a BC mark in the cold and wind on Saturday. He was joined by Cody Warner, Lashley Winter and Daniel Strutton in delivering a time of 8:18.17 that shaved nearly three seconds off the old record of 8:20.82, which was also recorded in the same meet last season. Barton placed 17th out of 20 in the event.
The 4x400-meter team missed matching last week's school record in that event by six-tenths of a second, as Alvarez and Dhaiti joined Collin Wilks and Aaron Jones in producing a time of 3:23.97 that earned 23rd place out of 38 squads.
Alvarez, Jones and Wilks also accounted for the three personal records set in the meet. All three came in the 400-meter run. Alvarez posted Barton's best time in the event this season with his PR of 49.87 seconds, a mark that placed him 34th in a field of 102. Jones recorded a PR of 51.40 seconds in finishing 68th, and Wilks delivered a time of 51.89 seconds while coming in 76th.
The Bulldogs will be back in action next weekend in High Point, N.C., at the VertKlasse Meeting, hosted by High Point University.
