MURFREESBORO, N.C.-Senior Amber Weaver collected four hits with three RBI and two runs scored to highlight play for Barton College in a doubleheader split at Chowan University on Thursday afternoon at Hawks Field.
Weaver hit a solo home run and then belted a pair of run-producing singles as the Lady Bulldogs won the first game 6-2.
Junior Alora Lincoln held BC to just three hits in the second game as the Hawks returned the favor with a 6-2 triumph in the nightcap.
Barton had a four-game win streak come to an end in the finale to move to 13-15 overall. Chowan is just 11-25 on the season but is 5-7 at home.
Weaver's leadoff blast in the top of the second started the scoring in the opener. Weaver's shot over the left field fence was her team-high fourth dinger.
The third baseman from Kenly, N.C., doubled up the visitor's advantage to 2-nil with a single to center in the third that plated freshman Megan Kelly. Weaver, who went 3 for 4 with three RBI and two runs, is now second on the team with 14 RBI and 14 runs.
A two-run double in the left field gap by junior Chandler Bridges knotted the score for the Hawks in the bottom of the fourth. Chowan had two of its four hits in that frame.
Barton sophomore starter Ashlyn Reagan retired the final 10 Hawks batters after Bridges' double to keep the hosts from taking the lead.
The Lady Bulldogs then secured the win for Reagan with two runs in both the sixth and seventh.
Sophomore Crystal Britton led off the sixth with a double down the left field line and moved to third on a bunt single by freshman Sydney Speight. Sophomore Samantha Bass then put Barton ahead with an RBI fielder's choice that scored Britton. Freshman Lindsey Sharpe added a sac fly, allowing Speight to tag up to cap the inning.
In the seventh, Weaver connected on her third hit that scored senior Kendra Kassonie, who led off with a base hit. Weaver later scored for a second time on a triple to the right corner by Britton.
Reagan improved to 7-4 with a complete game. Reagan allowed just two runs on four hits over seven innings of work while striking out four.
Barton outhit Chowan 10-4 with Britton, Speight and Kassonie all producing two base knocks.
The Lady Bulldogs once again took the first lead in the second game. Kelly led off the contest with a walk, stole second and advanced to third on a wild pitch before scoring on a groundout RBI by sophomore Rachel Jordan.
A pair of errors by Barton helped the Hawks take the lead for good in the home half of the first. Chowan scored three runs in the frame with only one being earned.
The Hawks tacked on one run in the second and two more in the fifth while Lincoln held the Royal Blue and White to just three singles. Barton was able to scrape out one more run in the third with Sharpe singling, stealing second and eventually scoring on a wild pitch, but Lincoln escaped further damage by stranding 10 Bulldog runners.
Weaver reached base in all four of her plate appearances including a single, two hit-by-pitches and one walk. Jordan and Sharpe each added a walk and a base hit.
Seven different Hawks accounted for Chowan's 10 hits. Junior Chandler Bridges had the hosts' big hit with a two-run triple in the fifth.
