TIGERVILLE, S.C.-Barton College was held to just five hits in being swept 8-0 and 10-2 in a Conference Carolinas softball doubleheader at host North Greenville University on Saturday afternoon.

North Greenville, the preseason favorites in the conference, improved to 11-15-1 overall and 7-7-1 in the league. The Lady Bulldogs dropped to 7-22 and 4-13.

Barton next visits conference frontrunner Mount Olive College on Thursday in a rescheduled twin bill beginning at 4 p.m.

GAME ONE: North Greenville 8, Barton 0 (6 innings)

The Crusaders hits two home runs and rode the arm of junior Rachel Glazebrook to an 8-0 shutout in six innings. Glazebrook, a First Team All-Conference pitcher in 2012, had a dominate performance holding the Bulldogs to just three hits. Glazebrook (8-7) posted seven strikeouts without issuing a walk.

NGU scored in five of six innings, which was highlighted by a three-run home run by Glazebrook in the fourth and a game-ending solo shot off the bat of senior Amy Nagel.

Sophomore Tori Freedman accounted for three of the Crusaders 13 hits and classmate Sarah Armstrong scored three times from the leadoff position.

Barton's had scoring opportunities every other innings but was unable to capitalize on its opportunities leaving five runners on base. Senior Amanda Schatz ripped the Lady Bulldogs only extra base hit of the game with a two-out double in the first but an ensuing fly-out ended the threat. A couple of Crusader errors followed by a sac bunt by freshman pitcher Liz White put two Barton runners in scoring position but another fly ball retired the side. Singles by junior Alex Baylis and senior Taylor Barker once again put two Bulldogs on base but Glazebrook stepped up with two straight strikeouts.

White (3-8) took the loss in a complete game effort for Barton.

GAME TWO: North Greenville 10, Barton 2 (5 innings)

North Greenville belted 13 more hits in the nightcap to pull away for the sweep with a 10-2 triumph of Barton in just five innings. Sophomore Cassi Carpenter went the distance and earned the win allowing just two hits. Carpenter (3-4) fanned two Bulldogs but a pair of unearned runs spoiled the shutout bid.

The Crusaders led throughout scoring three runs in the first that featured a two-run double by senior Kansas Wofford.

The NGU advantage grew to 4-nil before the Lady Bulldogs cut the deficit in half in the top of the third. Sophomore Emily Leagon started the rally with a leadoff single and later scored on a throwing error that extended the frame. Baylis reached base on the play and then came around for the second run on a single by White.

Three more Crusader runs in both the third and fourth pulled the host out to the eight run cushion. Senior Marielena Santos had a pair of run-producing singles and Armstrong rounded the bases three more times.

Junior Autumn Pittman (2-10) suffered the loss against a hot-hitting North Greenville squad that ranks second in the conference with a .291 team batting average.
