RALEIGH, N.C.-Senior Kendall Street knocked in nine Lady Bulldog runs including a pair of home runs and tossed a complete-game shutout to lead Barton College to three victories on Saturday during the first day of the Shaw University Round Robin at the Walnut Creek Complex defeating Saint Augustine's College (12-0), Fayetteville State University (8-2) and Virginia University of Lynchburg (19-0).
Barton completes play in the Round Robin on Sunday against West Liberty University and host Shaw. Game times are subject to change with the potential of inclement weather in the Raleigh area on Sunday.
BC outscored its opponents by a final margin of 39-2 on Saturday batting .417 (40-for-96). Nearly every other Bulldog batter reached safely as Barton finished with a .491 on-base percentage.
Junior Amber Weaver and sophomore Alex Baylis each went 6-for-12. Baylis totaled three triples and five RBI. Weaver and Street each crossed home plate five times. Junior Rebecka Morgan was 5-for-9 and a trio of Bulldogs had four hits apiece including seniors Casey Strickland and Autumn Herrin and freshman Emily Leagon.
GAME ONE: Barton 12, Saint Augustine's 0 (5 innings)
Sophomore starter Autumn Pittman tossed a complete-game shutout and freshman Heather Gatton drove three runs to lead Barton to a 12-0 victory in five innings over Saint Augustine's College Saturday morning in the opening game of the Shaw University Round Robin at the Walnut Creek Complex.
After a scoreless first inning, Barton exploded for five runs in the second and three more in the third to take a commanding 8-0 lead before finishing off the showdown with four more runs in the fifth.
Gatton highlighted Barton's run production with a two-run triple in the third. Strickland knocked in a pair.
Pittman (1-0) registered 11 of her 15 outs with K's. Pittman allowed just two hits and two walks.
GAME TWO: Barton 8, Fayetteville State
After four scoreless innings, Barton broke free of Fayetteville State University with four runs in the fifth, one in the sixth and three in the seventh to pull away for an 8-2 win Saturday afternoon.
The Lady Bulldogs had hits and runners on base in each of the first four frames but did not scoring until Barton loaded the bases with no outs in the fifth. Junior Elizabeth Webb put Barton on the board with an RBI-groundout and then Weaver followed with a two-run single. Street completed the decisive fifth with a double that plated Weaver.
Street swatted a pair of doubles; Baylis belted an RBI-triple; and Morgan tagged a two-run homer in the seventh.
Senior Emily Jordan (1-0) was credited with the win going the first six innings. The Broncos scattered seven hits on Jordan but she recorded five strikeouts and only issued on base on balls.
GAME THREE: Barton 19, Virginia University of Lynchburg
Street was a one-player wrecking crew for Barton against Lynchburg with a pair of three-run blasts, a total of six RBI, four runs scored. Street (1-0) also tossed a complete-game, one-hit shutout from the pitcher's circle with 10 strikeouts.
Street took the no-hit bid deep into the fourth inning before giving up a single to center field with two outs.
Barton tallied 19 hits including a perfect 4-for-4 showing by Baylis, who drove in three runs and had two more triples. Street, Weaver, Morgan and Leagon all had three hits against the Dragons.
Senior
Stacy Wade tallied a pair of runs batted in and scored on three occasions. Weaver rounded the base paths four times.
