WILSON, N.C. – The Barton field hockey team (0-1) suffered a 10-0 loss to third-ranked Newberry (1-0), 10-0, Friday afternoon in the season opener on a steamy Electric Supply Company Field at Truist Stadium.

The Wolves, the defending NCAA Division II National Runners-Up, were led by Amber Tozana (Bulawayo, ZIMBABWE) and Payton Keeler (Bridgeville, Del.) with two goals each as the visitors held a 42-0 edge in shots taken.

Newberry's goalkeeper, Kensley Harris (Hampton Farms, N.H.), earned the victory after playing the first half while sophomore Bryanna Snowball (Windsor, N.Y.) made 11 saves but suffered the loss in goal for the Bulldogs.

Barton hits the road to take on Randolph-Macon on Tuesday, September 8, at 7:00 p.m., in Ashland, Va.

Newberry hosts Belmont Abbey in its home opener on Tuesday in a conference contest beginning at 7:00 p.m., as well.
