FERRUM, Va. - The Barton women's volleyball team (4-10, 2-5) was on the short end of a thrilling five-setter in a 3-2 setback to Ferrum (4-6, 1-5) Wednesday evening in a Conference Carolinas contest at Swartz Gymnasium.
The Panthers won over the Bulldogs by scores of 25-19, 25-23, 23-25, 21-25 and 15-13 and snapped a six-match losing streak in the process.
Ferrum, which held off Barton after taking a two-set advantage, was led by Lily Ritzema (Richmond Hill, Ga.) with 14 kills and Daniela Castillo (Lima, PERU) added 27 assists as the Panther overcame 19 service errors in the win.
Barton was led by freshman right side hitter
Brenna Hasey (Jupiter, Fla.) and senior outside hitter
Mattie Wells (Elkin, N.C.) with 13 and 11 kills, respectively, in the losing effort.
Barton, however, hit just 0.094 for the contest and seeing its two-match losing streak snapped.
Barton looks to bounce on Saturday morning when the Bulldogs hosts league-foe North Greenville in a tilt at Wilson Gymnasium.
Ferrum, meanwhile, hosts Emmanuel in a conference match on Friday evening starting at 6:00 p.m.
