MURFREESBORO, N.C. - The Barton football team (1-3, 0-1) was shut out by Chowan (2-2, 1-0), 34-0, in the Conference Carolinas opener Saturday night at James G. Garrison Stadium.
The Hawks' quarterback, Tyler Adkins (Martinsville, Ind.), passed for a near-school record 465 yards and a pair of touchdowns as Chowan broke the contest open in the second half by scoring 27 points after intermission in the win.
Dezmond Randolph (Mableton, Ga.) was the team's top wide receiver, catching 10 passes for 181 yards and a score, while Jimmy Lacy (Flint, Mich.) returned an interception 20 yards for a score late in the third stanza to put the contest away.
Chowan held a 489-240 advantage in total yards while Barton junior linebacker
Cameron Royal (Clayton, N.C.) had a team-high nine tackles and freshman defensive lineman
Emmanuel Miller (Vanceboro, N.C.) had a pair of sacks in the losing effort.
Barton opens up a four-game home stand next Saturday, September 26, when the Bulldogs host West Alabama at Truist Stadium beginning at 4:00 p.m.
Chowan, meanwhile, travels to Livingston, Ala., to take on West Alabama on Saturday, October 3, at 4:00 p.m.
