WILSON, N.C. - The Barton football team (1-2) picked up its first victory of the season with a 36-21 triumph over Bluefield (0-3) Saturday afternoon at Electric Supply Company Field and Truist Stadium.

Barton freshman quarterback Geronimo Sanchez (Fayetteville, N.C.) passed for a touchdown and rushed for two more scores as the Bulldogs finished with 290 yards in the victory

Holding a 29-21 advantage late in the contest, Sanchez hit junior wide receiver Tyler Davis (Fayetteville, N.C.) for a 45-yard touchdown pass with 2:03 remaining in the contest to ice the victory.

Barton senior running back Dakauri Davis (Baltimore, Md.) led the Bulldogs' ground game with 146 yards while redshirt freshman defensive lineman Zane Bostick (Concord, N.C.) totaled two of the team's five quarterback sacks.

Bluefield quarterback Zack Paulk (Lake City, N.C.) passed for 352 yards and two touchdowns - an 86-yarder to Jamonta  Chavis (Petersburg, Va.) and a 70-yarder to Marlin Haywood (Lake City, Fla.) - in the losing effort.  Chavis led the visitors with 161 yards receiving.

Barton opens Conference Carolinas play next Saturday, September 19, on the road against Chowan in Murfreesboro, N.C.  The kickoff is set for 6:00 p.m.

Meanwhile, Bluefield visits Greensboro, N.C., to take on Greensboro next Saturday as well starting at 6:00 p.m.
