WILSON, N.C. – The Barton baseball team (9-28, 6-22) rallied with a pair of runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to pull out a 7-6 win over Southern Wesleyan (14-30, 8-20) Friday afternoon in the opening game of a Conference Carolinas series at Nixon Field.
Barton sophomore outfielder
Trevin Garner (Chapin, S.C.) hit the game-winning sacrifice fly – scoring junior designated hitter
David Lieux (Montgomery, Ala.) – as the Bulldogs won their second consecutive game.
Barton junior second baseman
Myles Odom (Pleasant Garden, N.C.) and junior catcher
Jackson Marvel (Johns Creek, Ga.) both tallied a pair of hits and two RBI in the triumph as well.
On the mound for the Bulldogs, sophomore
Ty Stewart (Hope Mills, N.C.) (1-0) earned the win in relief while junior
Jordan Winslow (Elizabeth City, N.C.) retired the final two batters to register his first save on the year.
Southern Wesleyan's Perry Dyer (Fountain Inn, S.C.) drove in three runs but Tanner Lewis (Florence, S.C.) (1-6) was tagged with the loss.
The two teams will wrap up the weekend series tomorrow with a doubleheader beginning at Noon as part of the Bulldogs' Senior Day.
