Barton men’s lacrosse takes down Mount Olive, 18-14, to defeat rivals for the first time ever

WILSON, N.C. – The Barton men's lacrosse team (3-4, 2-0) defeated Mount Olive (1-4, 1-1), 18-14, in a Conference Carolinas game Saturday afternoon at Electric Supply Company Field and Truist Stadium.

Barton sophomore attacker Logan McGrath (Stafford, Va.) led all scorers with five goals while senior attacker Nick Nelson (Wilmington, N.C.) totaled five points – three goals and two assists – as the Bulldogs defeated the Trojans for the first time ever.

Mount Olive had won the first eight meetings between the two schools.

The Trojans' Benjamin Vanderkley (Beaumont, Alberta, CANADA) and Brayden Rieger (Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, CANADA) both totaled three goals as Mount Olive cut a 15-6 third-quarter deficit to three late in the contest but ran out of time.

Barton graduate student goalkeeper Luke Woollard (Kent, ENGLAND) earned the victory after stopping 13 shots on the day.  Mount Olive's Kurtis Lensing (Wake Forest, N.C.) totaled 15 saves in goal but suffered the loss.

Barton hits the road to take on Lees-McRae on Friday, March 13, at 4:00 p.m., in a league game in Banner Elk, N.C.

Mount Olive, meanwhile, hosts Young Harris in a conference contest on Saturday, March 14, starting at 1:00 p.m.
