WILSON, N.C. – The Barton baseball team (3-14, 2-10) fell to No. 25 Francis Marion (19-3, 10-2) in a Conference Carolinas doubleheader setback, 25-3 and 17-6, Saturday at Nixon Field.
Game One – Francis Marion 25, Barton 3 (seven innings)
The Patriots' Ethan McAnally (Molino, Fla.) and Zach Doorlag (Sebring, Fla.) both hit a home run and finished with four runs batted in to lead the visitors to the easy win.
Francis Marion took advantage of 12 drawn walks and three hits batters and scored at least five runs in three consecutive innings in the triumph. McAnally also scored five runs while Robbie Jordan (Florence, S.C.) improved to 6-0 on the year after allowing just one earned run in six innings of work.
For Barton, junior outfielder
Vincent Santostefano (Chapin, S.C.) drove in a run while
Matthew Keoneke (Hagerstown, Md.) (0-3) took the loss.
Game Two – Francis Marion 17, Barton 6
The Patriots completed the sweep thanks to a five-hit, five-RBI performance from Will Dorrell (Rock Hill, S.C.) and a three-run home run from Dariel Villaran Goundis (Simpsonville, S.C.) in the ninth inning to round the scoring.
Holding a 4-2 advantage, the Patriots broke the contest open with a five-run sixth frame highlighted by a two-run single from Dorrell.
Barton junior designated hitter
Mason McDougall (Tampa, Fla.) and junior outfielder
J.J. Faulkner (Wilmington, N.C.) both drove in a pair of runs but
Dylan Mason (Rolesville, N.C.) (1-2) suffered the loss.
Francis Marion's Aydin Palmer (Effingham, S.C.) (4-1) earned the win while Owen Powell (Georgetown, S.C.) pitched the final four innings to earn the save.
Barton next travels to Ferrum, Va., to take on Ferrum on Friday in league action starting at 3:00 p.m., while Francis Marion hosts Catawba Tuesday at 5:00 p.m.
