FERRUM, Va. – The Barton baseball team (4-15, 2-11) suffered a 13-0 loss to Ferrum (8-12, 3-10) Friday afternoon in a Conference Carolinas weekend series opener at Panther Field.
Ferrum was powered by four home runs including a two-run round-tripper by Jachob Walters (Arlington, Tenn.) in the second inning and three solo round-trippers in the sixth frame.
Hunter Carlson (Lynchburg, Va.) hit one of those home runs in the sixth inning and finished with three hits and a pair of runs batted in for the home squad.
Barton was hurt by four errors which led to a pair of unearned runs while junior
Mason McDougall (Tampa, Fla.) (0-4) was tagged with the loss.
For Ferrum, Garrett Sawyer (Efland, N.C.) (1-2) earned his first win of the season after pithing six scoreless innings and striking out six batters.
Barton and Ferrum will wrap up the league weekend series with a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon starting at 1:00 p.m.
