BELMONT, N.C. – The Barton men's volleyball team (5-7, 3-2) stunned Belmont Abbey (7-2, 4-1) in a five-set thriller, 3-2, Friday evening in a Conference Carolinas match at the Wheeler Center.
The Bulldogs rallied from a 2-1 deficit to beat the Crusaders by scores of 17-25, 25-23, 22-25, 25-22 and 15-11 and beat Belmont Abbey for the first time since the 2021 campaign.
Barton was led by sophomore outside hitter
Lawson Hink (Brookfield, Wis.) with a match-high 18 kills while sophomore setter
Sammy DeBilzan (Lexington, Ky.) neared a double-double – 44 assists and eight digs – in the win.
Belmont Abbey, which fell from the ranks of the unbeaten in league play, was paced by Caden Day (Gainesville, Fla.) with 18 kills in the setback.
Barton also totaled nine blocks as a team as the Bulldogs won their third consecutive match.
Barton faces North Greenville in Tigerville, S.C., in a conference contest on Saturday afternoon starting at 2:00 p.m.
Meanwhile, Belmont Abbey hosts league-foe Mount Olive on Saturday starting at Noon.
