FERRUM, Va. – The Barton men's basketball team (4-10, 2-4) couldn't hold a 14-point halftime advantage and lost by one point to Ferrum (5-6, 4-2), 79-78, Wednesday night in a Conference Carolinas game at Swartz Gymnasium.
The Panthers' Gerren Jones (Swansboro, N.C.) led all scorers with a game-high 34 points and hit six three-pointers as Ferrum used a 16-0 run early in the second half to get back into the contest.
Ferrum finished with 10 three-pointers on the night and shot 50 percent (16-of-32) in the second half on its way to its third straight victory.
Three players reached double figures for the Bulldogs including senior guard
Trevur Smalls (Summerville, S.C.) with 16 points on eight-of-eight free throw shooting and junior guard
Jaylen Faber (Columbia, S.C.) with 15 points but the Bulldogs suffered their third consecutive loss.
Barton will look to bounce back on Saturday, January 10, when the Bulldogs host Lees-McRae at Wilson Gymnasium starting at 4:00 p.m.
Ferrum hits the road to face Emmanuel on Saturday afternoon in Franklin Springs, Ga., starting at 4:00 p.m.
