HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Barton men's lacrosse team (0-1) suffered a heart-breaking loss, 11-10 to Coker (1-0) in triple overtime Friday night in the 2026 season opener at the Cobras Athletic Complex.
The Cobras' Britt Rumbaugh (Hickory, N.C.) found the back of the net in the third overtime with just 40 seconds left for the golden goal and what proved to be the match-winner for the home team.
Coker's Jacob Cicco (Largo, Fla.) scored three times while Carter Wiltse (Bluffton, S.C.) stopped 16 shots in goal to key the Cobras' victory.
Barton junior midfielder
Zander Grimes (Draper, Va.) led the visitors with four goals while sophomore attacker
Logan McGrath (Stafford, Va.) scored three times in the setback.
Senior attacker
Nick Nelson (Wilmington, N.C.) scored with 41 seconds remaining in the fourth period to force the contest to overtime for the Bulldogs.
Barton graduate student goalkeeper
Luke Woollard (Kent, ENGLAND) made 14 stops despite the loss. Barton held a 44-38 edge in shots taken while Coker held a 36-23 margin in ground balls.
Barton travels to Ettrick, Va., to take on Virginia State beginning at 5:00 p.m., on Wednesday evening. Coker, meanwhile, travels to Greenwood, S.C., to take on Lander on Saturday, February 7, starting at 2:00 p.m.
