CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Barton men's volleyball team (1-1) opened the season with a split at the Queens University Tri-Match Sunday at Curry Arena and the Levine Center. The Bulldogs defeated Edward Waters, 3-1, before falling to the host Royals by a 3-1 score.

The Bulldogs won over the Tigers by scores of 25-20, 25-19, 20-25 and 25-18.
Barton was led by sophomore outside hitter
Lawson Hink (Brookfield, Wisc.) with a team-high 17 kills to go along with seven digs while sophomore setter
Sammy DeBilzan (Lexington, Ky.) added 18 assists in the win.
Edward Waters lost despite a 24-kill performance from Parfait Mugabo (Austin, Texas).
Queens 3, Barton 1
The Royals hand the Bulldogs their first setback of the year by winning over the visitors by scores of 28-26, 25-13, 19-25 and 25-18.
Queens was led by Casey Maas (Glen Ellyn, Ill.) with a match-high 15 kills while Caleb Williams (Greensboro, N.C.) added 21 assists and seven digs as the home team limited the Bulldogs to .110 hitting for the match.
Barton was paced by freshman outside hitter
Jacob Martinez (Tucson, Ariz.) with 12 kills, eight digs and three service aces and freshman libero
Max Bayer (Menomonee, Wisc.) with 35 assists in the losing effort.
Barton returns to Wilson Gymnasium to host Catawba in its season opener on Tuesday, February 27, at 7:00 p.m.
