Barton football comes up short to West Virginia State, 28-14, Saturday on the road

INSTITUTE, W.Va. – The Barton football team (0-2) suffered a 28-14 loss to West Virginia State (1-1) Saturday afternoon at Lakin-Ray Field at Dickerson Stadium.

The Yellow Jackets won on the strength of a big-play defense.  West Virginia State's Jacob Camacho (Belle Glade, Fla.) and Kyeran Garcia (Lehigh Acres, Fla.) both returned interceptions for touchdowns in the third and fourth quarters, respectively.

Barton senior quarterback Trevor Nored (Waldorf, Md.) threw a 21-yard touchdown pass to senior wideout Isaiah Jacobs (Raleigh, N.C.) in the second stanza and ran for a score in the final frame to lead the Bulldogs' offensively.

Nored passed for 239 yards while junior linebacker Keno Jones (Rocky Mount, N.C.) added a game-high 13 tackles in the losing effort.

Barton held a 303-282 edge in total yards but never held the lead in the entire contest.

Barton opens up Conference Carolinas play, the league's first-ever contest, against North Greenville next Saturday at 7:00 p.m., in Tigerville, S.C.

West Virginia State, meanwhile, takes on West Virginia Wesleyan on Saturday, September 20, in Buckhanon, W.Va., beginning at 1:00 p.m.
