Barton men’s soccer shuts out Shorter, 5-0, behind second-half surge

WILSON, N.C. – The Barton men's soccer team (3-2-1, 2-0) remained unbeaten in Conference Carolina play with a 5-0 victory over Shorter (0-5, 0-3) Saturday afternoon at the Bulldogs Athletic Complex.

The Bulldogs broke the contest open with four goals after halftime with every second-half score coming in the final 18 minutes of the match.

Barton sophomore defender Luke Copland (Long Island, N.Y.) opened the scoring just 9:27 into the match after heading the ball into the net right in front of the goal off a lob from senior forward Blake Grove (Newstead, AUSTRALIA), who was credited with the assist.

Barton junior midfielder Cameron Jordan (Zebulon, N.C.) made it 2-0 in the 73rd minute before graduate student defender Jeremy Alvarez (Sims, N.C.) added a goal and an assist.  Barton rounded out the scoring with an own goal.

The Bulldogs held a 24-7 advantage in shots taken while senior goalkeeper Alejandro Sepulveda (Cali, COLOMBIA) earned the victory in goal.  Shorter's Zachary Lunceford (Rome, Ga.) suffered the loss in goal despite five saves.

Barton hits the road to take on Catawba on Tuesday in Salisbury, N.C., beginning at 5:00 p.m., while Shorter faces Southern Wesleyan next Saturday, September 27, at 3:30 p.m.
