WILSON, N.C. – The Barton women's lacrosse team (9-6) defeated Belmont Abbey (6-7), 11-10, for the first time ever in 11 tries Wednesday afternoon at Truist Stadium and Electric Supply Company Field.

Kate Matuza (Hampstead, N.C.) scored the game-winner with 1:51 remaining off an assist from senior attacker
Avery Woodcock (Wilmington, N.C.) as the two teams were playing a non-conference regional affair.
Matuza, the program's all-time leading scorer, finished with a match-high four goals and leads the squad in goals scored with 42. Meanwhile, Woodcock totaled six points – a goal and five assists – and ranks first on the team in assists (29) and total points (58).
Belmont Abbey's Katelyn Miller (Savannah, Ga.) led the visitors with three goals and the Crusaders rallied from an 8-5 deficit early in the third period to take the lead, 10-9, with just over five minutes remaining but the Bulldogs scored twice to close out the scoring. The contest was close throughout the match even though Barton held advantages in both shots taken (34-27) and ground balls (29-22).

Kloe Martin (Dracut, Mass.) both scored twice while senior
Savannah Graves (Calvert County, Md.) notched made 12 saves to pick up the win in goal for the Bulldogs. Belmont Abbey's goalkeeper, Summer Eddinger (Fallston, Md.), totaled seven stops but suffered the loss.
Barton remains at home to take on league-foe Chowan in the regular season finale Friday, April 18, at 2:00 p.m., while Belmont Abbey hosts Shorter on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
