TIGERVILLE, S.C. – The Barton women's lacrosse team (8-6, 4-2) rallied late but fell short to North Greenville (6-7, 4-1), 15-12, in a key Conference Carolinas contest at Pepsi Stadium.
The Trailblazers' Aubrey Mayse (Moore, S.C.), Lauren Crane (Acworth, Ga.) and Kylie Keen (Edgewater, Md.) all scored three goals as North Greenville was able to hold on for the win.
Senior attackers
Kloe Martin (Dracut, Mass.) and
Avery Woodcock (Wilmington, N.C.) both scored a game-high four goals for the Bulldogs, who cut a 13-7 deficit at the end of the third period to 13-11 with just under six minutes remaining in the contest but couldn't get any closer.
In addition, senior attacker
Kate Matuza (Hampstead, N.C.) scored a goal in the first period to become the program's all-time leading goal scorer with 139. Matuza leads the squad in goals scored this season (38) while Woodcock ranks first on the team in assists (24) and total points (52).
North Greenville's Tori Smith (Johns Creek, Ga.) earned the win in goal for the home team after stopping seven shots as the Trailblazers won their third straight contest. Barton senior goalkeeper
Savannah Graves (Calvert County, Md.) made eight saves but the suffered the loss.
Barton next hosts Belmont Abbey in a non-conference affair on Wednesday at 3:00 p.m., at Truist Stadium while North Greenville faces Southern Wesleyan in Central, S.C., on Tuesday beginning at 6:00 p.m., in Central, S.C.
