WILSON, N.C. – The Barton men's lacrosse team (3-8, 2-3) notched a season-high in goals with a 23-9 rout of Lees-McRae (3-9, 1-5) on Senior Day in a Conference Carolinas contest Saturday afternoon at Truist Stadium and Electric Supply Company Field.
Barton junior attacker
Nick Nelson (Wilmington, N.C.) totaled six points – three goals and three assists – and was one of four players to score three times for the Bulldogs in the win.
Sophomores attacker
Jimi Carter (Huntingtown, Md.) and
Nick Pomilio (Raleigh, N.C.) and freshman attacker
Corbin Martin (Dracut, Mass.) all found the back of the net three times for the Bulldogs, who scored eight goals in the third period and used a 12-0 run in the second half to break the contest open.
Barton held advantages in both ground balls (40-33) and shots taken (49-35) while senior goalkeeper
Nate Lehr (Chenango Bridge, N.Y.) earned the victory in goal after stopping nine shots on the day.
Lees-McRae, who cut the margin to 11-8 early in the third period and was in the contest before Barton's run, was led by Garvin Johnson (Houston, Texas) with three goals but the Bobcats suffered their third straight loss. Lees-McRae's Eddie Patterson (Central Yalley, N.Y.) took the loss in goal despite five saves.
Barton hits the road to take on North Greenville next Saturday, April 12, at Noon in Tigerville, S.C., in a league contest while Lees-McRae hosts North Greenville on Friday, April 18, beginning at 7:00 p.m.
