ETTRICK, Va. – The Barton baseball team (20-11) shut out and run-ruled Virginia State (2-12), 12-0, over seven innings Tuesday afternoon at Whaley Colbert Field.

Luis Sauri (Buena, N.J.) finished with three hits and three runs batted in as Barton used a seven-run fourth inning to break the contest open.
Sauri's two-run single highlighted the frame while graduate student outfielder
Jerry Guzman (Jersey City, N.J.) added four hits and three runs scored as the Bulldogs shut out an opponent for the second time in a week.
On the mound, six pitchers combined for the five-hit shutout while junior
Nick Napolitano (North Massapequa, N.Y.) improved to 4-0 after earning the victory.
Virginia State's Gavin Stevens (Richmond, Va.) fell to 0-3 after taking the loss.
Barton steps back into Conference Carolinas play this Friday when the Bulldogs travel to Central, S.C., to take on Southern Wesleyan beginning at 1:00 p.m., while Virginia State hosts Lincoln (Pa.) in a doubleheader on Saturday starting at 1:00 p.m.
