Barton baseball takes down top-ranked North Greenville to take weekend series on the road

TIGERVILLE, S.C. – The Barton baseball team (16-10, 10-5) won over No. 1 North Greenville (21-15, 10-5), 10-6, on Saturday afternoon in the third and final game of a Conference Carolinas weekend series at Ashmore Park.

Barton, which won the series by winning the nightcap of a doubleheader on Friday, jumped out to a 7-0 lead midway through the contest and survived a push by the Trailblazers in the victory.  North Greenville also lost a home series for the first time since the 2015 campaign.

The Bulldogs were led by junior outfielder Salvatore Laimo (Philadelphia, Pa.), who drove in a team-high three runs highlighted by a two-run double in the fifth inning.

Senior outfielder Evan Harding (Clayton, N.C.) added a game-high four hits and senior catcher Chase Waddell (Lucama, N.C.) totaled three hits and a pair of RBI for the Bulldogs, who moved into a second-place tie in the league standings with North Greenville and Young Harris.

Barton junior Nick Napolitano (North Massapequa, N.Y.) improved to 2-0 on the year after pitching nearly five innings in relief to end the contest and allowing just two runs.

For North Greenville, Josh Foulks (Oak Ridge, N.C.) drove in three runs but Bennett Roemer (Bluffton, S.C.) (5-1) suffered his first setback of the year.

Barton returns home to host Kutztown (Pa.) on Tuesday starting at 3:00 p.m., at Nixon Field while North Greenville plays at Trevecca Nazarene in Nashville, Tenn., on Tuesday beginning at 3:00 p.m.
