MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Barton baseball team (12-7, 6-2) swept a Conference Carolinas doubleheader from Chowan (1-11, 0-5), 15-7 and 4-2, Saturday afternoon at Hawkins Field.

Game One – Barton 15, Chowan 7
Barton junior third baseman Yariel Diaz (Fort Myers, Fla.) and senior catcher Chase Waddell (Lucama, N.C.) both hit a three-run home run and drove in five runs as the Bulldogs outlasted the Hawks in the first contest.

Diaz hit his three-run round-tripper in the sixth inning while Waddell's three-run home run came in a seven-run sixth frame as the Bulldogs scored 11 combined runs in both innings to break the contest open.

Barton junior Terel Tillman (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) improved to 4-1 on the season after striking out seven batters over six innings of work.

Meanwhile, Chowan's Christopher Rumaldo (Canovanas, Puerto Rico) hit a two-run home run and drove in three runs but Nicky Wohleking (Kilmarnock, Va.) (0-2) was tagged with the loss.

Game Two – Barton 4, Chowan 2 (seven innings)
Trailing by a 1-0 score in the top of the seventh with two outs, Diaz came through with the game-winning three-run home run as the Bulldogs finished off the doubleheader sweep.

Barton sophomore outfielder Gavin Gilmore (Eastampton, N.J.) followed with a solo home run as the Bulldogs were down to their final out.  Rumaldo added an RBI single in the bottom of the seventh for the Hawks, who lost their 10th straight contest.

Barton graduate student A.J. Campbell (Absecon, N.J.) improved to 3-1 on the season after earning the win in relief while Rumaldo (0-1) took as well.  The Hawks' starter, Angel Diaz (Naranjito, Puerto Rico), allowed no runs and pitched into the seventh inning but did not figure into the decision.
