Barton women’s lacrosse rolls to first win of the 2025 season, 24-2 over District of Columbia

WILSON, N.C. – The Barton women's lacrosse team (1-2) picked up its first win of the 2025 campaign with a 24-2 victory over the District of Columbia (0-2) Monday afternoon at Electric Supply Company Field and Truist Stadium.

Barton senior attacker Kloe Martin (Dracut, Mass.) scored a game-high six goals while senior attackers Avery Woodcock (Wilmington, N.C.) and Kate Matuza (Hampstead, N.C.) both scored three times as the Bulldogs rolled to a 10-0 lead after the first quarter and never looked back in the win.

Barton scored the first 21 goals of the contest before UDC finally found the back of the net early in the fourth quarter.  The Firebirds' Grace Hall (Mooresville, N.C.) and Michelle Mitchell (Mechanicsville, Md.) scored for the visitors.

Barton held sizeable advantages in both shots (42-5) and ground balls (22-6) while junior goalkeeper Avery Gandolf (Medina, Ohio) earned the shutout victory after stopping a shot on the afternoon.

The Firebirds' goalkeeper, Natalie Perkins (Springfield, Ohio), made 13 saves in the losing effort.

Barton also tied the school single-game record for goals.  The Bulldogs defeated Converse by a 24-11 score at home on Saturday, March 16, 2024.

Barton hits the road to take on Lenoir-Rhyne on Wednesday at 4:00 p.m., in Hickory, N.C., while the District of Columbia hosts Virginia State Saturday starting at 11:00 a.m.
