ROME, Ga. – In an important contest for position in the Conference Carolinas standings, the Barton men's basketball team (14-12, 10-8) pulled out a key 88-83 victory in overtime over Shorter (5-19, 3-15) Saturday afternoon in league action at the Winthrop-King Centre.

Barton senior guard Shawn Nelson (Miami, Fla.) led all scorers with 26 points and hit the game-winning field goal with just over two minutes left in the extra stanza to break an 81-all tie as the Bulldogs won their second straight contest.

Nelson also hit a free throw with under 10 seconds remaining in the second half to force overtime tied at 76-all as Barton rallied from a 72-66 deficit with just over two minutes left to push the contest into extra time.

Shorter was led by Donovan Shangese (Birmingham, Ala.) with a team-high 22 points but the Hawks were out-rebounded by a 43-27 margin and hit just seven-of-25 three-point attempts (28 percent) in the setback.

Nelson was one of five players to reach double figures for the Bulldogs while senior forward Marko Krtinic (Indjija, SERBIA) added six points and a game-high 18 rebounds in the win.  Barton sophomore guard Sean Quick-Streeter (Columbia, S.C.) and junior guard Jaylen Faber (Columbia, S.C.) added 13 points each for the visitors.
