FLORENCE, S.C. – The Barton baseball team (8-7, 3-2) split a Conference Carolinas doubleheader with Francis Marion (11-3, 2-3) Saturday afternoon at Sparrow Stadium. The Bulldogs lost the first contest by a 9-1 score before rallying in the nightcap to salvage the split, 8-7.
Game One – Francis Marion 9, Barton 1
The Patriots' Rijnaldo Euson (Haines City, Fla.) improved to 4-0 on the season after pitching seven shutout inning while striking out six batters while Charlie Bussey, III (Graniteville, S.C.) hit a solo home run and drove in a pair of runs in the victory.
Barton junior third baseman
Yariel Diaz (Fort Myers, Fla.) avoided the shutout with an RBI single in the ninth inning but junior
Joe Rauscher (Plymouth Meeting, Pa.) (0-2) was tagged with the loss.
Game Two – Barton 8, Francis Marion 7
Barton freshman catcher
Jackson Marvel (Johns Creek, Ga.) drove in three runs as the Bulldogs rallied from a 3-0 deficit after an inning of play to split the doubleheader.
With the score tied a five entering the seventh and final inning, Barton plated three runs in the frame to take the lead for good including the game-winning RBI single from sophomore outfielder
Gavin Gilmore (Eastampton, N.J.). Marvel also drove in two runs in the inning.
Francis Marion's Austin Bunn (Kuna, Idaho) opened the scoring with a three-run home run in the bottom of the first inning.
Barton junior
Terel Tillman (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) improved to 3-1 after earning the victory while redshirt freshman
Brady Dunlop (Clayton, N.C.) retired the final three batters including the final out with the bases loaded for the win. Francis Marion's Josh Adams (Chesterfield, S.C.) (0-1) took the loss.
The two teams wrap up the weekend series on Sunday with a single game starting at 1:00 p.m.
