WINGATE, N.C. – The Barton baseball team (7-6) moved back over .500 on the season with a 4-2 victory over Wingate (4-6) Tuesday afternoon in a non-conference, regional contest at Ron Christopher Stadium.
Barton senior outfielder
Evan Harding (Clayton, N.C.), the current Conference Carolinas and Southeast Region Player of the Week, and senior shortstop
Luis Sauri (Buena, N.J.) both drove in a pair of runs to lead the Bulldogs to their third straight win.
Sauri opened the scoring with a two-run single in the third inning while Harding broke a two-all tie with the game-winning, two-run double in the Bulldogs' half of the seventh frame.
Barton graduate student
A.J. Campbell (Absecon, N.J.) improved to 2-1 on the season after allowing just two unearned runs while pitching into the seventh inning to go along with six strikeouts. Sophomore
Dante Onorato (Cinnaminson, N.J.) earned the save for the Bulldogs, his first of the season.
For Wingate, Sean Sullivan (Sunrise, Fla.) had an RBI single while Brian Boone (Anderson, S.C.) (1-1) was tagged with the loss.
Barton returns to Conference Carolinas play on Saturday when the Bulldogs travel to Florence, S.C., to take on Francis Marion in a doubleheader beginning at 1:00 p.m. Wingate opens South Atlantic Conference play on Friday at Lenoir-Rhyne in Hickory, N.C., beginning at 6:00 p.m.
