Barton men’s lacrosse downs Wilmington, 14-10, for first win of the season

WILSON, N.C. – The Barton men's lacrosse team (1-1) picked up its first win of the 2025 season with a 14-10 triumph over Wilmington (Del.) Saturday afternoon at Electric Supply Company Field and Truist Stadium.

The Bulldogs' freshman attacker Logan McGrath (Stafford, Va.) and senior midfielder J.J. Mitchell (Winston-Salem, N.C.) both scored twice and added an assist while junior attacker Nick Nelson (Wilmington, N.C.) dished out a game-high five assists in the victory.

Barton scored six times in the second quarter to rally from a 4-3 deficit to take control in the victory.  A 7-1 run by the Bulldogs capped off by a goal from sophomore attacker Nick Pomilio (Raleigh, N.C.) gave the home team a 10-5 advantage with just over six minutes remaining in the third stanza and Barton remained in control the rest of the way.

The Wildcats' Josh Weston (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, CANADA) scored a match-high three goals in the losing effort.

Wilmington held a 41-33 edge in shots taken but senior goalkeeper Nate Lehr (Chenango Bridge, N.Y.) came but big for Barton, totaling 15 saves in the victory.  The Wildcats' goalkeeper, Daniel Flynn (New York, N.Y.), suffered the loss despite eight stops on the afternoon.

Barton remains at home to take on Mars Hill on Wednesday at 3:00 p.m., at Truist Stadium while Wilmington faces Molloy on Wednesday, February 26, in Rockville Centre, N.Y., at 1:00 p.m.
