Barton men’s lacrosse rallies but falls short to Mars Hill, 11-10

WILSON, N.C. – The Barton men's lacrosse team (1-2) rallied from a six-goal deficit to cut the margin to one but fell to Mars Hill (2-2), 11-10, Wednesday morning at snowy Truist Stadium and Electric Supply Company Field.

Three players for the Lions – Cole Ross (Victoria, British Columbia, CANADA), Josh McCallion (Beaumont, Alberta, CANADA) and Brandon Woodward (Port Coquitlam, British Columbia, CANADA) – each scored three goals as the visitors jumped out to a 9-3 advantage early in the third period and were able to hold on for the win.

Barton sophomore attacker Nick Pomilio (Raleigh, N.C.) led the home team with three goals while senior attacker Nic Lord (Wilmington, N.C.) added two scores as the Bulldogs cut the margin to one goal twice – 10-9 and 11-10 - late in the contest but the Lions were able to hold on for the win.

Barton lost despite advantages in both shots taken (46-32) and ground balls (33-22) while senior Nate Lehr (Chenango Bridge, N.Y.) made eight saves in goals despite the loss.

Mars Hill's goalkeeper, Shane Hecht (Spotsylvania, Va.), earned the victory after stopping 11 shots on the day.

Barton hits the road for the first time this year when the Bulldogs travel to Salisbury, N.C., to take on Catawba on Saturday beginning at 2:00 p.m., while Mars Hill hosts Malone on Saturday at Noon.
