Barton men’s basketball suffers road setback to Virginia State on Saturday afternoon

ETTRICK, Va. – The Barton men's basketball team (4-8) fell to Virginia State (7-7) by a 94-66 score on Saturday afternoon at the Multipurpose Center.

The Trojans' Tim Uzochuwku (Chesterfield, Va.) led all scorers with 21 points to go along with 13 rebounds for a double-double while Jacob Cooper (Virginia Beach, Va.) added 15 points as the home team raced to a 55-32 lead at halftime and never looked back in the triumph.

Virginia State also connected on 22-of-28 free throw attempts (79 percent) in picking up its second straight victory.

Barton senior guard Trevur Smalls (Summerville, S.C.) led the visitors with 13 points and junior guard Sean Quick-Streeter (Columbia, S.C.) added 12 points but the Bulldogs saw their three-game winning streak come to an end.

Barton was also strong from the charity stripe – 30-of-42 (71 percent) – but connected on just four-of-23 (17 percent) three-point attempts and was forced into 18 turnovers.

Barton next competes on Saturday, January 3, when the Bulldogs return to Conference Carolinas play and faces Young Harris beginning at 4:00 p.m.  Virginia State, meanwhile, hosts Cheyney (Pa.) on Monday, January 5, at 6:00 p.m.
