Barton men’s basketball takes care of rival Mount Olive, 98-76, for third straight victory

WILSON, N.C. – The Barton men's basketball team (4-7, 2-2) pushed its winning streak to three games with a 98-76 triumph over Mount Olive (5-6, 2-2) in a rivalry contest and a Conference Carolinas game Wednesday night at Wilson Gymnasium.

Barton senior guard Trevur Smalls (Summerville, S.C.) led all scorers with 23 points and was one of five players to score in double figures for the home team.

Barton shot 50 percent from the field and held a 44-27 advantage in rebounding on its way to the easy win.

Senior guard Christian Taylor (Waldorf, Md.) came off the bench to score 14 points for the Bulldogs, who also connected on 28-of-37 (76 percent) shooting from the charity stripe.

Mount Olive had three players score 11 points – Matt Kirby (Wilson, N.C.), Shane Peterson (Burlington, N.C.) and Micah Jones (Holly Springs, N.C.) – in the losing effort.  The Trojans were also limited to two-of-15 (13 percent) from the three-point line.

Barton hits the road for the first of three contests away from home on Saturday, December 20, when the Bulldogs travel to Ettrick, Va., to take on Virginia State beginning at 4:00 p.m.
