WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Barton men's basketball team (1-6) picked up its first triumph of the 2025-26 season, 77-64 over Winston-Salem State (1-4) Saturday afternoon at the Charles E. Gaines Center.

Trey Fields (Clayton, N.C.) tallied a double-double – a team-high 19 points and 14 rebounds – as the Bulldogs pulled away with a 40-point second half to give first-year mentor
Joel Zimmerman his first victory.
Fields hit four of the Bulldogs' 11 three-pointers and Barton closed the game on a 7-0 run over the final 3:45 in the triumph.

Christian Taylor (Waldorf, Md.) added 13 points each for the visitors.
Winston-Salem State's Tyre Boykin (White Oak, N.C.) led all scorers with 21 points but the Rams were hurt by a three-of-11 performance (27.2 percent) from the free throw line in the second half in suffering their second consecutive setback.
Barton travels to Murfreesboro, N.C., to take on Conference Carolinas-foe Chowan on Wednesday, December 3, beginning at 7:00 p.m. Meanwhile, Winston-Salem State hits the road to take on Mount Olive on Monday starting at 5:30 p.m., in Mount Olive, N.C.
