Barton men’s basketball suffers road setback in conference opener to UNC Pembroke

PEMBROKE, N.C. – The Barton men's basketball team (0-6, 0-1) was on the short end of its Conference Carolinas opener to UNC Pembroke (3-2, 2-0), 92-71, Wednesday evening at Lumbee Guaranty Bank Court and English E. Jones Center.

The Braves, who were deadlocked in a 34-all tie with the Bulldogs at intermission, broke the contest open with a 58-point second half to win their third straight game.

UNC Pembroke was led by Quay Watson (Charlotte, N.C.) with 18 points including four treys and was one of four players to reach double figures for the home team.

Barton junior guard Sean Quick-Streeter (Columbia, S.C.) led all scorers with a season-high 26 points while senior guard Trevur Smalls (Summerville, S.C.) added 16 points but the Bulldogs shot just 18 percent (three-of-17) from behind the three-point line in the setback.

Barton looks to bounce back when the Bulldogs travel to Winston-Salem, N.C., to take on Winston-Salem State on Saturday afternoon beginning at 4:00 p.m.

UNC Pembroke remains at home to host USC Beaufort on Saturday starting at 4:00 p.m., as well.
