WILSON, N.C. – The Barton men's basketball team (0-3) lost another heartbreaker Wednesday night, 83-82 to Shaw (3-0) at Wilson Gymnasium.
The Bears' Isaiah Buckley (Prince George County, Md.) hit the game-winning trey with five seconds left and finished with a team-high 22 points and seven assists as Shaw rallied from a 13-point first-half deficit to remain unbeaten on the season.
Barton lost despite the play of junior forward
Trey Fields (Clayton, N.C.), who tallied a monster double-double – a game-high 30 points and 13 rebounds – in the losing effort.
The Bulldogs, who have lost three games so far this season by a total of five points, also received an 18-point, six-assist effort from senior guard
Trevur Smalls (Summerville, S.C.).
The Bulldogs held a 46-28 edge in rebounding and led by a 38-25 margin with just under four minutes left in the first half despite the loss.
Barton hits the road for the first time this year when the Bulldogs travel to Mount Olive, N.C., to take on Emory & Henry in the Pickle Classic Friday evening beginning at 5:00 p.m. Shaw, meanwhile, takes on Charlotte in Charlote, N.C., on Saturday afternoon at 2:00 p.m.
