WILSON, N.C. – The Barton men's basketball team (0-2) fell in another close contest, 83-81 to Augusta (1-3) Saturday afternoon on the final day of the Hampton Inn/TRU Hotels 45 Second Classic at Wilson Gymnasium.
The Jaguars' Elias Palsson (Njardvik, ICELAND) led all scorers with 27 points while Luis Nonfon (Berlin, GERMANY) and Charlie McBeath (Sydney, AUSTRALIA) added 14 points each as Augusta overcame a 10-0 deficit to start the contest.
Barton senior guard
Trevur Smalls (Summerville, S.C.) finished with 19 points and was one of four Bulldogs to reach double figures in the losing effort.
The Bulldogs had a chance to tie but a last-second shot rimmed out as time expired and Augusta was able to hold on for the win.
Barton junior guard
Sean Quick-Streeter (Columbia, S.C.) totaled 16 points off the bench in the losing effort. Both teams were outstanding from the charity stripe – Barton was 28-for-34 (82 percent) and Augusta finished 28-for-35 (80 percent) from the free throw line – while the Jaguars held a 43-39 edge in rebounding.
Barton remains at home to take on Shaw Wednesday evening beginning at 7:00 p.m., while Augusta hosts Emmanuel on Wednesday, November 19, at 7:30 p.m.
In the first contest of the day, Wingate won over Mount Olive by a 99-90 score.
