Barton football falls to UNC Pembroke on the road despite early advantage

PEMBROKE, N.C. – The Barton football team (2-7, 2-3) couldn't hold a pair of 10-point leads as UNC Pembroke (8-2, 5-1) rallied for a 34-17 victory Saturday afternoon in a Conference Carolinas contest at Grace P. Johnson Stadium.

The Braves' quarterback Tre Robinson (Charlotte, N.C.) passed for a touchdown and ran for the game-winning score in the third quarter as UNC Pembroke rallied from deficits of 10-0 and 17-7, respectively, to earn a spot in the league championship game.

Barton junior wide receiver Luke Smith (Reidsville, N.C.) caught a pair of touchdown passes in the first half but the Bulldogs were kept off the board in the second half in the setback.

Robinson led the Braves in both passing yards (199) and rushing yards (99) as UNC Pembroke outscored Barton by a 20-0 margin in the second half and scored the last 27 points in the win.

UNC Pembroke's Darrell Scott (Brandywine, Md.) rounded out the scoring with a 46-yard interception return for a touchdown with 2:43 remaining in the final stanza.  Barton junior linebacker Keno Jones (Rocky Mount, N.C.) led the Bulldogs with 12 takedowns and a fumble recovery despite the loss.

Barton returns home to host conference-foe Erskine next Saturday, November 8, at 5:00 p.m., at Truist Stadium.

UNC Pembroke next competes in the Conference Carolinas Bowl against North Greenville on Saturday, November 15, at Noon in Tigerville, S.C.
