"I am incredibly honored and humbled to be named the Head Softball Coach at Barton College," said Cooney.  "This opportunity means the world to me and I'm beyond excited to get to work with such a talented group of student-athletes.  My mission is to inspire and empower young women to be confident leaders on the field, in the classroom and in life.  I want to build a culture of excellence, where our team competes with heart, supports one another like family, and strives to be great in all that we do.  I'd like to sincerely thank Athletic Director Ken Tyler and President Dr. Douglas Searcy for believing in me and entrusting me with this incredible opportunity.  I'm thrilled to be joining the Bulldog family and can't wait to get started."

Cooney, a native of Mechanicsburg, Md., earned her bachelor's degree in business management with a minor in economics.  Cooney was an Easton/NFCA All-American Scholar-Athlete and an Academic All-Conference honoree.  In addition, Cooney was Mount Olive's Outstanding Student-Athlete of the Year as a junior in 2023.

"We would like to welcome Courtlynn Cooney as the next Head Coach of Barton Softball," said Tyler.  "We had a strong pool of candidates, and Courtlynn stood out as someone who can take our program to the next level.  She was an outstanding player in our conference and was described by everyone we talked to as an extremely hard worker with a passion for softball.  Courtlynn is a rising star and we can't wait to see what she accomplishes at Barton College."

Cooney was also a private softball instructor, initiated a successful prospect camp at Ferrum and served as an umpire for the Southern Maryland Youth Organization (SMYO) Little League.
