WILSON, N.C. – The Barton women's soccer team (3-6, 2-4) fell to Chowan (4-4-1, 4-2-1) by a 1-0 score Tuesday afternoon in a Conference Carolinas match at the Bulldogs Athletic Complex.
The Hawks' scored the lone goal of the match when Lily Harrison (Glossop, ENGLAND) found paydirt right in front of the net after taking advantage of an errant Bulldog kick by a defender.
Barton held an 18-11 advantage in shots taken including a 15-4 edge in the second half but Kylee Smith (Virginia Beach, Va.), the reigning conference defensive player of the week, but the Bulldogs at bay.
Smith earned the shutout victory after stopping 10 shots on the afternoon while freshman goalkeeper
Lily Diedrich (Severna Park, Md.) suffered the loss despite allowing just one goal while stopping a pair of shots.
Hawks swept the season series from the Bulldogs after winning at home by a 2-0 score on Wednesday, September 17, in Murfreesboro, N.C.
Barton next hosts rival and league-foe Mount Olive for Senior Day on Saturday at 4:00 p.m.
Chowan, meanwhile, faces Virginia State in Petersburg, Va., on Saturday, October 11, starting at Noon.
