FERRUM, Va. – The Barton men's soccer team (4-4-2, 3-1-1) earned a key Conference Carolinas road victory with a 3-1 triumph over Ferrum (3-3-2, 1-3) Saturday evening at Penn-Roediger Field.
Three different players – senior midfielder
Sora Watanabe (Kitanagoya, JAPAN) and junior forwards
Andrew Herman (Wake Forest, N.C.) and
Cole Grove (Brisbane, AUSTRALIA) – scored for the Bulldogs, who found the back of the net for the first time in four matches.
Clinging to a 2-1 advantage late in the contest, Grove scored with just 25 seconds left to ice the match for Barton. The goal was Grove's second score on the year.
Barton held a 13-11 edge in shots taken while senior goalkeeper
Pedro Bonfa (Sao Paulo, BRAZIL) earned the victory after making three stops on the night.
For Ferrum, Jadon Brooks (Cary, N.C.) scored while Michael Arzillo (Virginia Beach, Va.) suffered the loss in goal despite the six stops.
Barton returns home to take on Chowan in a conference showdown Tuesday at 7:00 p.m., at Truist Stadium and Electric Supply Company Field.
Ferrum, meanwhile, hosts Mount Olive on Wednesday afternoon starting at 3:00 p.m.
