WILSON, N.C. – The Barton football team (2-6, 2-2) suffered a 33-7 setback to Shorter (2-7, 1-4) Saturday afternoon in a Conference Carolinas contest on the Bulldogs Homecoming in front of over 3,000 fans at Truist Stadium and Electric Supply Company Field.
Shorter quarterback Jeb Walls (Perry, Ga.) passed for 222 yards and two touchdowns while a pair of Hawks' running backs – Lanear McCrary, Jr. (Rockmart, Ga.) and Carlos Mann (Geraldine, Ala.) – crossed the century mark on the ground in the victory.
McCrary, Jr., tallied 107 yards and a score while Mann had 100 yards rushing as the Hawks held a 490-166 edge in total yards in the victory.
Barton scored its lone touchdown late in the first quarter when junior linebacker
Keno Jones (Rocky Mount, N.C.) returned a fumble 36 yards for a score while senior linebacker
Ja'Correy Bible (San Antonio, Texas) led all tacklers with 14 takedowns in the losing effort.
Shorter also held a 40:17-19:43 edge in time of possession in snapping a four-game losing streak in the process.
Barton hits the road to take on UNC Pembroke next Saturday, November 1, at 3:00 p.m., in Pembroke, N.C., in league action. Meanwhile, Shorter hosts league-foe North Greenville on Saturday, November 8, at 7:00 p.m.
