WILSON, N.C. – The Barton men's soccer team (6-7-3, 3-2-6) fought Belmont Abbey (5-3-6, 3-2-6) to a 1-1 tie Friday afternoon in a key Conference Carolinas match at the Bulldogs Athletic Complex.
Barton opened the scoring 22 minutes into the contest when senior forward
Blake Grove (Newstead, AUSTRALIA) found the back of the next off pass across the box from junior forward
Hayden Summerfield (Norwich, ENGLAND), who was credited with the assist.
Belmont Abbey tied the match at the 33:18 mark of the first half when Sam Jordan (Stamford, ENGLAND) took control of a loose ball in the box and placed it in the corner of the net.
The second half was scoreless while both teams tallied 19 shots on the day.
Both goalkeepers – Barton senior
Pedro Bonfa (Sao Paulo, BRAZIL) and Trent McConnaughey (Dublin, Ohio) – finished with five saves for the contest as well.
Barton hits the road to take on rival Mount Olive in a league contest Tuesday night beginning at 7:00 p.m., in Mount Olive, N.C. Belmont Abbey, meanwhile, hosts King in a conference match Tuesday starting at 7:00 p.m., as well.
