Barton men’s soccer pulls out 2-1 league home victory over Ferrum

WILSON, N.C. – The Barton men's soccer team (6-7-2, 5-4-1) held off Ferrum (3-6-3, 1-6-2) by a 2-1 score in a Conference Carolinas contest Tuesday afternoon at the Bulldogs Athletic Complex.

Barton junior midfielder Kenan Leber (Wilmington, N.C.) scored the match-winner in the 75th minute – the first goal of his Bulldogs' career – as the home team swept the season series from the Panthers.

Barton opened the scoring when junior midfielder Akos Tajtyi (Castellon, SPAIN) flicked the ball into the net right in front of the goal off a long pass from senior forward Blake Grove (Newstead, AUSTRALIA) in the 19th minute.  Grove was credited with the assist.

Ferrum's goal came at the 68:43 mark of the contest courtesy of Jonathan Nicacio (Naples, Fla.) which tied the score at one before Leber's heroics.

Barton held a 17-15 edge in shots taken while senior goalkeeper Pedro Bonfa (Sao Paulo, BRAZIL) earned the victory after making three saves.  Ferrum's goalkeeper, Michael Arzillo (Virginia Beach, Va.), made seven stops but suffered the loss.

Barton remains at home to take on Belmont Abbey Friday beginning at 4:30 p.m., in a league contest while Ferrum faces Shorter in Rome, Ga., on Saturday morning starting at 11:00 a.m.
