WILSON, N.C. – The Barton football team (2-5, 2-1) picked up a big Conference Carolinas victory on Saturday with a 28-21 triumph over Chowan (2-5, 1-2) in front of over 2,500 fans at Electric Supply Company Field and Truist Stadium.
Barton sophomore running back
Jackson Parrish (Graham, N.C.), the reigning league offensive player of the week, went over 200 yards for the second straight game to lead the Bulldogs to the win.
Parrish finished with a career-high 221 yards rushing and three touchdowns including the game-winner on a five-yard run with just 2:14 left in the fourth quarter as Barton picked up its second straight triumph.
Chowan quarterback Maurice Smith (Fort Pierce, Fla.) passed for a pair of scores and finished the opening drive of the game with a 16-yard touchdown run but it wasn't enough in the setback.
The Hawks had a chance late in the contest but were stopped on fourth down at the Bulldogs' 30-yard line with seven seconds left. Chowan's other quarterback, NyJal Johnson (Starkville, Miss.), added 196 yards in the air despite the setback.
Barton senior linebacker
Ja'Correy Bible (San Antonio, Texas) led the Bulldogs on defense with 12 tackles while freshman
Javon Wesley (New Bern, N.C.) picked off a pass in the win.
Barton remains at home next Saturday when the Bulldogs host Shorter for Homecoming in league action starting at 2:00 p.m., while Chowan hosts No. 19 UNC Pembroke on Saturday, October 25, at 6:00 p.m.
