WINGATE, N.C. – The Barton field hockey team (0-10, 0-7) was on the short end to Wingate (6-4, 4-3), 3-1, Saturday afternoon in a South Atlantic Conference match at Graham Gill Stadium.
Wingate's Kayleigh Haines (Lusby, Md.) scored twice including the match-winner at the 13:23 mark of the opening stanza while Laela Brown (Salisbury, Md.) added a pair of assists as the home team won their second consecutive contest.
Barton sophomore forward
Nyla Allen (Ypsilanti, Mich.) found the back of the net in the final quarter – just the fourth goal on the season for the visitors – to help the squad avoid the shutout.
Wingate held a 26-5 advantage in shots taken while Colleen Emanuele (Massapequa, N.Y.) earned the victory in goal. Emanuel was credited with one save. Barton junior goalkeeper
Gracyn Arruda (Richmond, Va.) made seven stops but took the loss.
Barton returns home to host Newberry on Tuesday, October 14, at 1:00 p.m., in a league match at Electric Supply Company Field and Truist Stadium.
Wingate hosts Coker in a non-conference affair Wednesday beginning at 6:00 p.m.
