WILSON, N.C. – The Barton women's basketball team (7-7, 3-3) was ice cold from the field in a 60-34 setback to Belmont Abbey (11-2, 5-0) Saturday afternoon in a Conference Carolinas contest at Wilson Gymnasium.
The Crusaders, ranked No. 24 in NCAA Division II, limited the Bulldogs to just 19 percent shooting (12-of-62) from the field while winning their ninth consecutive game.
Belmont Abbey was led by Peyton Nation (Springboro, N.C.) with 16 points while Abigail Crain (Windermere, Fla.) added 13 points as the Crusaders remained in first place at the top of the Northwest Division standings.

Lauren Mingo (Clinton, Md.) led the home team with 13 points but was the lone player to score in double figures for the Bulldogs. The Bulldogs hit just three-of-28 (11 percent) three-point attempts as well.
Belmont Abbey spotted Barton a 15-12 lead after one period of play but held the Bulldogs to just 19 points over the final three quarters: no more than eight points in each stanza.
Barton will look to bounce back on Wednesday, January 8, at 5:00 p.m., against UNC Pembroke in league action in Pembroke, N.C., while Belmont Abbey faces Converse on Wednesday in Spartanburg, S.C., at 5:00 p.m., as well.
