PEMBROKE, N.C. – The Barton women's basketball team (7-8, 3-4) suffered a 56-46 loss to UNC Pembroke (12-3, 6-1) Wednesday evening in a Conference Carolinas contest at the English E. Jones Center and Lumbee Guaranty Bank Court.
The Braves, who improved to 6-0 at home this season, were led by Kelci Adams (Fort Mill, S.C.) with 15 points and 10 rebounds while Zaria Clark (Stanley, N.C.) added a double-double – 12 points and 10 rebounds – in the victory.
Barton was paced by freshman guard
Celeste Bailey (Virginia Beach, Va.) with 12 points and graduate student guard
Lauren Walker (Charlotte, N.C.) also reached double figures with 10 points but the Bulldogs shot just 31 percent (17-of-56) from the field in suffering their third straight setback.
The Braves led by as many as 22 points – 53-31 with 8:55 remaining in the contest – and held a 43-34 edge on the boards.
In the next round of Conference Carolinas contests on Saturday beginning at 2:00 p.m., Barton travels to Banner Elk, N.C., to take on Lees-McRae while UNC Pembroke hosts King.
