Barton men’s basketball upended by first-place UNC Pembroke Wednesday night in league action at home

WILSON, N.C. – The Barton men's basketball team (10-10, 6-6) couldn't handle UNC Pembroke (12-6, 10-2) Wednesday night at Wilson Gymnasium as the Bulldogs lost to the Braves by a score of 97-65 in a Conference Carolinas affair.

The Braves, who are currently in first place in the East Division of the league standings, showed tremendous balance with six players reaching double figures including 18 points from Dallas Gardner (Charlotte, N.C.) and 16 points from JaJuan Carr (Burgaw, N.C.) in the victory.

UNC Pembroke, which swept the season series from Barton, scored 55 points after halftime and shot 61 percent (41-of-67) from the field in the victory.

Barton sophomore guard Sean Quick-Streeter (Columbia, S.C.) led the home team with 17 points off the bench while senior guard Shawn Nelson (Miami, Fla.), the current league player of the week, added 12 points in the setback.

The Braves led by as many as 37 points – 95-58 with just under two-and-a-half minutes left in the contest – and held a 47-25 edge on the boards in the triumph.

Barton remains at home to take on league-foe North Greenville on Saturday, February 1, at Wilson Gymnasium beginning at 4:00 p.m., while UNC Pembroke returns home to host Emmanuel in a conference contest on Saturday starting at 4:00 p.m., as well.
